So much for that plan...

Wouldn't you know it? The minute I say I'm going to try to be here more often, THINGS happen that keep me away. Things like the flu. Yes, that flu. The one we all got shots to prevent. Nate managed to escape it but it took Walter and me down. Let me tell you, it's miserable. Avoid it at all costs.
Flu buddies
Once we got mostly past that little hurdle (I say mostly because we still have a cough that just won't quit), Nate and I set off for Arizona to run the Rock 'n Roll Arizona 1/2 marathon. The flu a week before the race was not really in the training program, but I have to say we both kicked butt!
Finishers
Nate finished in 1:34:06. He's so speedy! And I finished in 2:00:32. A PR for both of us. I'm proud of both our times and we had a lot of fun running it. We also extended our vacation a little and spent a couple days in beautiful Sedona. We drove the scenic highway, hiked up a mountain, and ate amazing food.

And my list of excuses ends there. We're back. We're settling in to our normal routines again and I really will try to be here more often.
I swear.

A little something for the boy

Walter got a guitar for Christmas. I think I've tuned it about 50 times in the past two weeks. I don't know why. He doesn't care what it sounds like. He just strums crazily and within minutes, it's out of tune again. But he loves it and he asked me to make him a strap so it's easier for him to hold while he's crazily strumming. I love it when Walter commissions a project. This sort of thing is so fun to work on. It's new to me - I've never made a guitar strap. It's like a puzzle. What materials do I need? Can I use something I have on hand? How does it all go together? Plus, my little client is happy to help and easy to please. We decided to use this bicycle fabric, purchased two and a half years ago. Two and a half years it's been sitting in my stash, waiting for just the right thing. I think we put it to good use. He is ready to rock!

p.s. - If you need a custom guitar strap, I'm your girl. :)

Welcome 2013

Looking back at the past year through the pages of this blog – oh my! 2012 was filled with lots of new things, lots of learning, lots of challenges, and lots of fun. Bees, chickens, school, running, knitting, traveling, soccer... The list goes on and on. The posting around here has dropped off quite a bit, but sometimes life requires more living and less documenting. I do miss this space though, and I enjoy having something to remind me of all the wonderful ways we we fill our days. So, while I will make no promises, I will try to visit more often.
Here are a few photos from the last bit of 2012. (All from my phone. I hope to have some "real" photos to share soon. I got some new lenses for Christmas that I'm excited to play with!)

Happy New Year! Here's to an awesome 2013!
